How It Works
Timing Sports use both next generation IPICO dual frequency systems and ChampionChip digital equipment. Both systems use plastic "RFID" tags - worn by each athlete in the race - which are energised by a magnetic field generated by the timing mats. When the tag is energised, it sends it unique ID back to the timing boxes via the mats. The timing box records the tag ID and the precise time it was detected and send the information to our timing computers.

YOU MUST WEAR YOUR TAG ON YOUR SHOE, YOUR ANKLE OR YOUR CYCLE FORK.
IT WILL NOT WORK IN YOUR POCKET, ON YOUR WRIST OR IN YOUR HAT !!!

IPICO Timing System
Timing Sports uses IPICO Elite systems for all of our larger events. IPICO systems use a dual frequency timing chip which means the mats are constantly charging the transponders and listening for tags at the same time. As the tag moves into the magnetic field generated by the mats, the energy it is given is used to send the tag ID back to the reader.

ChampionChip Timing System
The send and receive antennas are cast in thin tartan mats. These antenna mats are placed at the finish line and other timing locations. They are connected to a Yellow Box at the side of the road, containing electronics and batteries. Each time an athlete wearing a ChampionChip crosses the mats, the chip gets energized and sends out its ID-number. This number and corresponding time are then stored in the Yellow Box and transferred to a timing computer for further processing.
